Educational home robot manufactured during the first half of
the 80's. HERO 2000 was most advanced of it's sister robots, the
HERO 1 and
HERO Jr. Features included
expandability, an
optional 5 1/4"
floppy drive, and it's own programming language,
HERO Basic. Built in speech synthasizer. Hero 2000 has 2
sonar sensors, a
light sensor, a temperature sensor, and a manipulator arm. Can be controlled and programmed either through a remote keyboard (with sinlge line
LCD display), or via an
ANSI terminal. Supports baud rates up to 1200. Stores programs and data via
casset tape. Powered by a rechargable 12
volt lead-
acid battery.
My physics teacher had one sitting in a storage closet gathering dust until my friends and I revived it, and are currently rehabilitating it. That is, when it's not chewing its
drive wires to pieces.
