The Falcons have played in the Georgia Dome since 1992. Before the Falcons played at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium for 26 years.

The name "Falcons" were suggested by many residents of Atlanta and its surroundings. Miss Julia Elliott of Griffin, Georgia suggested that: "the Falcon is proud and dignified, with great courage and fight. It never drops its prey. It is deadly and has a great sporting tradition."

The franchise's only high point came in 1998 when the Falcons won the NFC Championship, however the Falcons ended up losing Super Bowl XXXIII to the Denver Broncos.
