The Angel of the North is a huge statue designed by Turner Prize winning artist, Anthony Gormley. It was erected in February 1998, just off the A1 on the way into Gateshead in the UK, at the head of the Team Valley. Apparently over 90,000 people per day drive past this gigantic iron image, which is 20 metres tall and has a wingspan of 54 metres.

The statue has been used as part of a practical joke/advertising gimmick when the famous No. 9 shirt of the Newcastle United Football team striker, Alan Shearer, was draped over the Angels' Body
