Kage Baker is a relatively new science fiction author who burst out on the scene with "In The Garden Of Iden" in 1997. Since then she has published 3 other novels and a number of short stories in Asimov's, including "Son, Observe The Time", which was nominated for a Hugo Award. A number of these stories were collected in "Black Projects, White Knights: The Company Dossiers" (Golden Gryphon, 2002).

Kage Baker was born in Hollywood, CA in 1952. Before her SF career she was a mural painter, graphic artist, playwright, director, teacher of Elizabethan English (for stage). She happily confesses to being a Jethro Tull fan.

All Baker's novels are all set in the "Company" universe. The Company is an immensely powerful corporation that rescues people from death, makes them almost immortal, and sends them on time travel missions to rescue art or extinct life-forms. The stories are an odd combination of historical novel and science fiction, populated by eccentric characters.
