On
Japanese TV, when a
suspect is shown being brought into the
police station, besides blurring out their
face, it is also customary to blur out the
handcuffs on their
wrists.
This has puzzled me for a long time, because it only draws more attention to the fact that the person is a
suspect.
The reason they do this is because once someone
sued a
Japanese tv station because showing them in
handcuffs made them look
guilty, which is wrong since they haven't been
convicted yet.
Also, similar to in america, on tv news they are very careful to always call the arrested person a
suspect.
