Science Fiction and
Fantasy Writers of
America Inc. is a non-profit writers' group known best for giving out the annual
Nebula Awards.
Full membership in the SFWA (the organization was originally known as the Science Fiction Writers of America, and voted to keep the acronym) requires the professional publication of three short stories or one novel or script. Associate, affiliate and junior memberships are availible to beginning writers, agents, editors, artists and publishers.
Members receive the services of the SFWA in resolving disputes with publishers, as well as contract advice and the privilege of nominating and voting on Nebula award stories. There are approximately 1200 members of the SFWA.
