Biography:
Jerry Remy was born on November 8, 1952 in Fall River, MA. In 1971 Jerry was signed by the California Angels. In the Angel's farm system, Remy ripped it up, hitting exceptionly well and playing near perfect defense. In 1975, Remy would make his big league debut. Remy would play second base and DHing for three seasons. In December 1977, the Angels would trade Remy to the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Don Aase, who is the third player alphabetically in the history of baseball.
In his first season as a BoSock, Remy showed his speed by stealing 30 bases and his great defense. Even though he wasn't a power hitter, Remy was elected to the All-Star team this season. Remy's career would be cut short by a knee injury that occurred in 1984. Remy would retire from the game of baseball during 1986.
Most Red Sox fans know Jerry Remy due to his work done after his playing days in the bigs. In 1988, Remy would again see time in a baseball stadium, only this time Jerry Remy was in the announcer's booth. Starting in March, Jerry would do color commentary alongside Ned Martin for all Red Sox games showed on NESN. In 1993, Jerry would be paired with Bob Kurtz who would retire 7 years later. Since 1999, Jerry has worked alongside Sean McDonough, doing a superlative job announcing the games on WFXT Fox 25. In 2000, Don Orsillo replaced Bob Kurtz at Remy's side.
Every baseball team has their mouth. The Cubs had Harry Carey, and the Red Sox have Jerry Remy. Very knowledgeable about baseball, Remy is quick to provide commentary and explanation. Remy also has great chemistry with his partner, whoever it may be. I haven't seen a commentating team like McDonough and Remy since the last time I watched Iron Chef.
