The Graphical, Paper & Media Union or GPMU is the British Trades Union that represents workers employed in the print, publishing, paper and media industries in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. It claims to be the world's largest media trade union, and has a membership of over 200,000.
The Union was formed in 1992 from the merger of the National Graphical Association or NGA and the Society of Graphical and Allied Trades or SOGAT. The NGA itself was a product of a previous merger in 1963 between the the Typographical Association and the London Typographical Association whilst SOGAT had been formed in 1966 by the combination of the National Society of Operative Printers and Assistants and the National Union of Printing, Book Binding and Paper Workers.
