One of my
personal favorite rock and roll bands of all time,
if only for the fact that they were the best and most
consistent and
hardest-working band for
five years(1992-1997). They're
still going, and
they're still good. But
nothing measures up to those 5 years.
Fun facts about GBV:
- Started in 1986 in Dayton, Ohio
- Founded by Robert Pollard, Mitch Mitchell, Dan Toohey, Kevin Fennell, and Tobin Sprout
- Over 40 musicians have been part of the band over the past 14 years, including Greg Demos, Jim McPherson, Doug Gillard, Cobra Verde (another Dayton band), Jim Greer, Jim Pollard, Tim Tobias, and Nate Farley
- Discography includes 12 "studio albums" (for lack of a better term since most of their albums have been recorded on 4 and 8-track machines), 4 demo/rarity compilations, 4 live albums, 19 EPs, and an infinite amount of singles and compilation tracks
- the band was able to beat the beastie boys in a game of basketball
