before either of us had to turn away (poetry)

It was easy

it required no planning,  no preset schedule

we did what we wanted,  when we wanted

without concern if you or I were OK with the plan

                                                                     We were the plan 

it was easy back then

when one of us woke early

and fixed coffee and then later walked the dog

if it was cold,  scraped the windshields

it was so simple, until it wasn't and

I have no memory of how it went from

automatic to impossible

                                                                         but it did

before it changed,  no words were needed

then

none could be found
