An area in computer memory used to prepare graphical displays before transferring them to VRAM.

This is perhaps the only way to get truly smooth graphics in any program that has more than 1 moving object. The only problem with offscreen graphics is that it can take up serious memory, especially at the 1024x768x32 bit color. This is why many games don't like to use those resolutions because of the ram requirements that are better spent towards AI, gameplay, playability, and realism.
