A light board is a piece of equipment used to control the lights in a
theater. These devices vary in complexity, from simple sets of
manual sliders controlling the intensity of individual lights, to
computerized systems that can hold light presets for a number of shows, and execute each one at the press of a button, whether it's a crossfade, a complex chase sequence or a simple
blackout. (some would argue that the computerized systems are lacking a
human touch). Most of them are capable of handling a large number of lights, from 32 for your school or
community theater to hundreds for concerts and light shows.
I love running lights. You get to help create something wonderful without worrying about
forgetting your lines. Plus, you get to see a free play. Hell, in some places, I think they pay you!
