A statement about a large group of people, places or things based on
limited knowledge of one small subset of these
classifications. Any statements that include the words -
always,
all of those, and
never have the potential to be
broad generalizations, but not necessarily.
examples:
I know one person with a hamster.
The hamster peeded on me, therefore,
All hamsters pee on people.
The Montreal Canadiens are a popular sport franchise and have a large following in both Montreal and Canada.
The Montreal Expos are a sport franchise in Montreal, therefore,
The Expos are also a popular franchise.
(This last statement is absurd, since this particular team draws a crowd less than some United States high school football games).
