Sus cebifrons, a
critically endangered species of wild
pig endemic to the
Philippines. Thought to be common at one time throughout the
Visayan Islands, the central
archipelago of the Philippines, it can now only be found in limited areas of the islands of
Panay and
Negros. The Visayan
warty pig is threatened by loss of habitat and by hunting, as the local peasants clear its forests for cropland and kill pigs that eat their crops. The warty bit of their name refers to three pairs of
warts found on the faces of adult males.
