Apparently, Neil Young was a close confidante of the late Kurt Cobain. He wrote this song shortly before Cobain's suicide, in an attempt to discourage him from taking his own life. The song, now rarely performed by Young, continues to stand as a tribute, as well as encouragement to the young and despairing.
