An Everything2 Help document

Everything2 is an English-language website.

If there is a poem or significant text in a non-English language which you would like to post, then we ask that you include an English translation. Examples of this can be found at Femmes Damnées - Delphine et Hippolyte, Inferno - Canto I, Ave Maris Stella, and elsewhere. Keep in mind that copyright on translations is handled separately from that on the source texts and, where appropriate, you should get permission before posting them here, and give credit to the translators.

If you translate things yourself, you would be well advised to seek help from native speakers of whichever language is not your own, particularly if you are translating into a language other than your own. See E2 translators for some people who may be willing to help.

Why is E2 English-only?

English is the only language which all the Content Editors and e2gods have in common. Some of them are multilingual, to be sure, but equally many can only administrate confidently in English. A writeup which was written in, say, Russian, might not be understood by any of the admins. As a result, the writeup could well be worthy of deletion, but not get deleted, because none of the admins would be able to tell. Since E2 is a carefully edited web publication, this would be unacceptable.

Adding support for other languages also presents substantial technical challenges, which increase with the level of language support wanted. Even the simplest solutions are unattainable at the moment.
