Born on December 1, 1970, Sacha Baron Cohen is the son of a Welsh father and an Israeli mother.
He made his theatrical debuts during the eighties. He improved his comedic talent during the year he spent in a kibboutz in Israel. He then went back to England where he obtained a degree in history in the University of Cambridge.

In 1996, he was hired by Paramount Comedy Channel where he used to perform some humorous transitions between the programs. This ultimately got him remarked and, 2 years later, he became a member of The 11 O'clock show where Ali G first appeared.

Is it cos' I is black ?

Yelled while being taken outside the Parliament, in the movie Ali G Indahouse, this could be his most representative quote. Ali G is indeed, according to his creator, a pure product of the American-influenced Consumer Society: He thinks that in order to be cool, he has to imitate his idols.

Owing to Ali G's immediate success, Sacha got to realise his own show on Channel 4: Da Ali G Show.
In these shows, Ali G spends much time interviewing people, attempting to destabilizing them with silly questions. For example, he asked "what was it like to walk on the sun?" to Buzz Aldrin or "who really shot JR?" to a former head of FBI.
Exported to the USA, this show elevated Sacha Baron Cohen to the rank of an international star. Madonna even chose him as her freaky chauffeur in the "Music" video clip.

Because of his new fame, Sacha now felt he had to do more and to do better. He chose both an horizontal approach by creating new characters and a vertical approach by opening his acts to other media, the movie industry, for example.

Booyakasha!

Sacha's new acts are:

  • Borat Sagdiyev is Kazakhstani television's top media personality and the creator of "Borat's Guide To Britain".
He was first seen in the UK on Channel 4 Television after Ali G stumbled across him "whilst flicking through the foreign satellite channels after watching the 5 minutes free view on the Fantasy Channel".
Borat is supposedly very naive and has a strong scatological humour". Borat is also known for The Infamous Song: In My Country There Is Problem.
A movie featuring Borat is currently being made. Its release was originally planned for 2005 but he soon had problems while singing a parodic version of The Star Spangled Banner during a rodeo and had to escape with director Todd Phillips before getting lynched by the angry crowd. After this, Philips decided to withdraw as a director and Borat will have to find another.
  • Brüno, an Austrian fashion "expert", is another unconvential interviewer who is brilliantly used to expose the shallow world of the catwalk and it's empty-headed commentators and designers.
