Fighter for women's suffrage and advocate of dress reform -- she thought rather than wear floor-length skirts with hoops under them, that women should wear ankle-length pants gathered at the bottom with a calf-length skirts over them. This was considered shocking in the mid-1800s and the idea never caught on.
