Also known as doxorubicin, this drug, of the anthracycline family is used to treat many types of cancers, including cancers of the breasts and testes.

It is the "A" component in the chemotherapy regimens ABVD (Adriamycin, bleomycin, vincristine and dacarbazine) and AC (Adriamycin and Cytoxan).

It is associated with numerous side effects including vomiting, nausea, cardiac damage, hair loss, sore mouth and bruising. Drugs like ondansetron, metoclopramide and neupogen are used to mitigate these side effects.
